Aloha everyone! It’s that time of year – the time of year we say goodbye to the carefree days of summer and begin preparing for the upcoming school year. I like to prioritize my back to school to-do list because if I’m being honest, I probably won’t get everything done before the school year starts. It generally takes me a few weeks to get our early morning school routine down and there will be days my kids go to school with mismatched socks or their shirt inside out – it will happen. That being said, prioritizing my back to school to-do list ensures I at the very least get the most important things done so the kids and I are set up for success.
One of my top priorities is finding the best deals on school supplies. My mission every year is to fulfill my kids’ school supply lists without breaking the bank. Over the years I’ve noticed that most folks fall into one of two categories when it comes to buying school supplies: you either buy supplies early or you wait until the last minute. I personally prefer buying school supplies for my kids early and as soon as the supply lists are made available I go ahead and buy what we need (I do this because I feel good about knocking something off my back to school list…lol). This summer I’ve been paying attention to store advertisements and I made an astonishing discovery – it doesn’t matter if you’re proactive or a procrastinator because Wal-Mart has consistently had the best prices on school supplies all summer long! So, if you are still in need of a few items on your child’s school supply list I highly recommend heading to your local Wal-Mart. Or, if you’re a military family, head to the Exchange on post (where you won’t pay tax, and you can price match competitors ads!)
A second item high on my back to school priority list is making sure I stock up on medicine for my children. You guys, it never fails – my kids always come home sick within the first few weeks back at school. If you follow our Facebook Page, then you probably saw my video last week where I talked about Hawaii Savings Club and everything our website offers our members. One of the things I mentioned is our site offers manufacturer coupons, which means you don’t have to change your shopping routine to save money. You guys, while you’re stocking up on the best priced school supplies you should also print out our Children’s Tylenol coupon and stock your medicine cabinet as well. In my opinion it is better to be prepared than to have to run to the store with a sick child in tow.
Anyone else have any great back to school tips? I’d love for you to share!
