Preparing for Bad Vog Days

Aloha everyone! My family and I have been suffering from the recent influx of vog due to all the volcanic activity occurring on the Big Island. Our eyes have been red and irritated, our throats have been feeling itchy, and we’ve been battling congestion. I haven’t experienced allergy symptoms like these since we lived in Georgia and Texas. It’s been bad. We’ve had to make a few changes to our daily routine and I had to start stocking up on allergy medicines to help us combat the symptoms.

First, I’ve begun limiting our time outside on days that appear extremely hazy. However, we are an active family who love to spend time outdoors; so, when we opt for outdoor activities we make sure to bring along some Visine to help with our irritated eyes. Second, I’ve made sure to bring along extra drinking water to help keep our bodies hydrated. The extra water also helps flush our respiratory system which helps with congestion. I’ve also been using Sudafed along with the extra water to help with that symptom. Last, I closed all my windows in the house and turned on the AC because I knew it was a way to keep the air quality in the house clean. It wasn’t long though before my kids started complaining of itchy throats and I started getting migraines so I bought all of us some Zyrtec to help with those symptoms.

What do you all do to prepare for the vog? Do you have any extra tips? Please share in the comments! I’d love to read your thoughts!
