We are jumping into spring! There are so many fabulous places to visit in Hawaii, and it can be hard to figure out which one you want to visit! Between fun events, and learning about the Hawaiian culture, it can be hard to determine where to go, especially if you want to get away from the crowd.
You can visit the National Park Service for Hawaii to find some off the beaten track locations, but we have a couple that we want to share too!
1. Lulumahu Falls
This waterfall hike is one of my favorites and its conveniently located off the Pali Hwy. Its a little over 2 miles round trip and starts off going through some bamboo trees, once through you will be welcomed to an open field that offers gorgeous mountain views. After a short, easy walk you will soon find yourself along a stream. You will follow the stream up making a few switchbacks crossing it before you reach some boulders near the end. You will make a short climb over the boulders and be rewarded with a 50 ft waterfall. Please obtain a permit before you go at https://trails.ehawaii.gov/camping/welcome.html
Address- 4459 Pali Hwy, Honolulu Hi 96817
2. Kuli’ou’ou Ridge
Ok so the distance on this hike is a little longer for beginners at 5 miles roundtrip and an elevation gain of 1,800 feet, however its worth every tear of sweat and blood. This hike has not one but 3 different scenery changes, starting with several switchbacks, you’ll notice ferns, koa, and logwoods along the way. Halfway up you can find picnic benches if you need a break or snack, also you will be greeted with a steep hill covered with cook pines and ironwoods. Once you reach the open again you will begin to climb steps along the ridge with views of Diamond Head, Koko head, and Hawaii Kai. Once you finish the final steep climb you can relax on the summit with amazing views of Waimanalo, Makapu’u, and Kailua in the distance.
We want to know where you love to hike, or places that are on your wish list to get too!
